Follow a slower Himalayan road journey from Shimla through Kinnaur into Spiti, where whitewashed monasteries sit above broad, stark valleys. Seven nights leave room for the approach as well as the destination. This is a demanding high-altitude road proposal, adjusted around health, season and local access rather than a fixed promise to cross every pass.
A suggested route
Shimla → Sangla area → Kalpa → Tabo area → Kaza → Rampur area. The day-by-day plan below is a starting point and can be adjusted to your dates and pace.

High altitude can cause serious illness. Discuss medical suitability with a qualified clinician before travel. Long drives, weather, permits, road access and seasonal stays need checking; the route may require extra rest, a revised turnaround or cancellation. Begin with a restful Shimla overnight before the longer mountain-road stages. Your arrival timing determines whether any gentle local walk is practical.

Day 2Towards the Kinnaur valleys
Travel towards the Sangla area with regular breaks and realistic driving time. Keep the arrival evening free after the road journey.

Day 3Kinnaur to Kalpa
Continue to Kalpa at a comfortable pace, choosing only suitable local stops. Use the afternoon for rest rather than another distant detour.

Day 4Into the Spiti landscape
Proceed towards the Tabo area only after checking road access, permissions and group suitability. Prioritise rest on arrival.

Day 5Towards Kaza and monastery surroundings
Continue towards Kaza and consider a respectful monastery visit if access and health allow. The final stops follow local advice.

Keep a flexible day around the valley. Avoid strenuous activity or higher detours if anyone feels unwell; a return or revised plan may be needed.

Travel back towards a suitable lower overnight point on the confirmed route, with buffers for variable road conditions. No seasonal pass shortcut is assumed.
